About Me

I wanted to be a writer long before I could write. As a kid I'd write (or "write" -- for a time it was just lines indicating text, until I mastered the ABCs), draw and bind my own books. Usually they featured the family pets. (Write what you know?)
My mother -- who I somewhat based the character of Fiona upon -- also loved to tell stories from her own childhood and embellished fairy tales or make up stories about mermaids and fairies. To this day, if I see a thick blanket of fog, I still secretly wonder if there are "fog fairies" that might be able to snatch me to another realm. (Honestly, I do think that.)
As a kid we moved a lot, mostly around Michigan. We either were around the metro Detroit area, or we lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I always found life "up north" fascinating. Not only is the landscape gorgeous, but the people are memorable, so I set my first book series there.
After getting a degree in English in college, I worked for newspapers and magazines, but now I freelance as a proofreader, editor and writer. I also spend a lot of time crafting the Poppy Blue stories, and plotting other books.
I'm married to a fellow writer and editor. We have four cats (Poppy's Puck and Fido are based on our Baldrick and Motley, respectively), and I'm obsessed with all things 1980s. I also spend way too much time drinking lattes, shopping for lipstick, making up silly names for the cats, and wanting to be a Medieval quack. (Yeah, that last part is weird, I know.)
